Berna has more than 10 years of professional experience. Her research focuses on Disaster Resilience and Risk Management in cities and how local governments use technology and data in disaster preparedness and planning.
Berna has received an Urban Computing fellowship and a Disaster Resilience and Risk Management fellowship at Virginia Tech. She holds a MS degree in Public Policy and Management from Carnegie Mellon University; a MA degree in Political Science from Sabanci University, Turkey; and a BA degree in Sociology from Koc University, Turkey.
Berna is a member of the American Planning Association (APA).
