Intended for Emerging Leaders

Using a competency-based approach to leadership development, the School of Public and International Affairs at Virginia Tech created a curriculum allowing for a sharp focus on each level of the developmental nature of leadership. Such competencies are the ability to: demonstrate adaptable behaviors and leverage this insight to manage self and others during challenging times and high workload; demonstrate effective communication skills through oral and written forms for both interpersonal and public application; apply natural and learned knowledge and skills through group leadership and followership; demonstrate support and a commitment to team cohesion through constructive feedback and encouraging accountability; analyze the conditions of the organization and environment to establish a probable response.
